LEBANESE HASH
Lebanese Hash is a rare and renowned landrace variety responsible for producing the world-famous red and blonde Lebanese hash.
Originating from the mountains above the ancient city of Baalbek, Lebanon (known as Heliopolis during the reign of Alexander the Great), this undiluted cultivar has adapted to a very inhospitable environment. These genetic adaptations have resulted in remarkable and unique characteristics that we’ve been able to exploit for short-season outdoor growers.
Remarkably drought- and heat-tolerant, Lebanese Hashplant was put to the test during the hottest summer on record here in British Columbia, Canada. With sustained temperatures of 44°C (111°F), the Lebanese plants didn’t bat an eye, while all other cultivars in our garden wilted from the scorching sun that year.
Another notable trait is that Lebanese begins blooming extremely early, with the first signs of inflorescences emerging in late June to early July. This gives Lebanese a mid-September harvest window for northern growers, which is nearly unheard of in a long-flowering, narrow-leaf sativa like this. This early-flowering habit makes Lebanese an exceptional breeding stock for those looking to create quick-blooming hybrids.
With early-flowering varieties, there’s almost always a trade-off with yield, but that is not the case with this exotic hashplant. Due to its strong sativa pedigree, plants grow to massive proportions and continue to produce wave after wave of fresh stigmas. This causes buds to stack upon themselves until the long, sun-reaching limbs are laden with glistening trichomes. Plants tend toward branchy expressions with thin leaflets that allow for ample airflow. Overall height is moderate for a pure sativa variety, as these plants begin flowering early in their lifecycle and cease upward growth.
The terpenes of Lebanese have a very interesting double-layering of intensity. At first, you’ll smell ripe mango and tropical fruit, but underneath lies a very pungent and long-lasting diesel aroma. The combination results in a truly unique aromatic profile that we haven’t found anywhere else. The terpenes also seem to be surprisingly resistant to degradation. Even when drying in a hot barn at the end of summer, these plants did not lose any of their pungent aroma.
